We spent part of Sunday afternoon at Dolphin's Cove in the Prairie Athletic Club in Sun Prairie. This is a great big pool with tubes and slides. The girls had a great time (we will put pictures once they are downloaded). After learning a few rules at the kids pool, it was on to the slides. The two youngest ones waited to see what the older ones would do in the bigger slides. Then they went as well. I went on the purple slide that has the double and single tubes. I don't like slides or roller coasters, I get a little vertigo and my neck starts to hurt, but I went several times with different girls. I think Sucena and I went three times and Yesica and I went once. Then the girls discovered a rope where kids go across a pool. They stayed here a long time, and they all went across.
I felt somewhat sad they did not share this day with someone their age such as a friend or cousin, but we plan to invite cousins to come and share this experience. I can't wait until the girls make some friends, I think this would help them get more acclimated to here.
Today I (Mercedes) went to work. It felt a little strange. I am definitely not the same person I used to be. I'm not sure that I have internalized motherhood yet, but I am getting there.
Thanks for all the support out there. I promise pictures are coming!
Dear Mercedes,
ReplyDeleteYou have not changed so much, I bet, but your priorities have. It gets so hard to balance things when all of the demands are "do it asap" or "right now"---and you're used to being able to do that. I've gotten to the stage in which I just do not have the energy for sustained work. Fortunately I don't have to. I marvel at you and Alex and am so proud of your commitment to both your work and the girls.
Don't get discouraged yet. When the girls, as you said, have a chance to make their own friends they won't be so dependent on you for everything. The balance will get a little easier, not a lot easier, but a little. And soon they will be able to help with the cooking and washing and caring for their own things. That will make a world of difference. For now you have a big load.
Can I bring supper over for you one evening---or come and cook for---with-- the girls? My spanish is not good, but my cooking is. My love, Sis
